The Nokia Twist: The Flexible Mobile Phone

If you have followed the technology industry updates the last few weeks, you have seen that some companies, or Samsung rather, is going to introduce a flexible cell phone in the coming future. I have always wondered why a flexible cell phone would be beneficial in the first place. However, now that I think about it, having a mobile phone in your back pocket could sometimes pose a little danger of it actually breaking if you forget you have it there and sit down. Other than that though, I don’t quite understand the concept of it. Maybe it’s just me, but I am quite happy with the swipe and touch features of my smartphone.

Nokia was quick to follow up with their own concept, and they stated they are going to introduce a flexible cell phone as well, or at least it looks like it. I don’t know if the technology is there yet, but they have gone to great lengths to make it look like it. They even put out a video saying, “Nokia introduces the world’s first flexible mobile phone.” As you can see, the battle to become the first one on the market with a flexible phone is quite important. However, the gain for the end user still seems to elude me.

When I watch this video though, I get a strong feeling of dislike. It’s not that I don’t like the concept idea, it’s just that I really don’t like the design of that “thing.” It looks like something you would see on the tool table over at your doctor’s office. In my humble opinion, not only is it really weird looking, but it’s highly impractical as well. Try putting that one in your front jeans pocket and being a guy. Not working out, is it?
